Bribe-Taking Revenue Officer Arrested in Uttarakhand, Caught Red-Handed with ₹40,000

Pithoragarh: A Registrar Kanungo posted in Didihat Tehsil was caught red-handed by the Vigilance team while accepting a ₹40,000 bribe. Following his arrest, the team conducted a three-hour interrogation and searched his residence. The action was taken after a local resident filed a complaint regarding bribery in a land settlement case.

Bribery for Land Settlement

  • Deepak Singh Dasila, a resident of Tehsil Ward, began constructing a building recently.
  • Kanungo Narayan Singh Kathayat repeatedly harassed him, claiming the land was unmeasured (benap).
  • The officer demanded ₹40,000 to settle the matter and allegedly threatened legal action when the bribe was delayed.
  • Frustrated, the victim reported the case to Vigilance officials.

Trap Laid, Officer Nabbed

  • Haldwani Vigilance Team verified the complaint and planned the trap.
  • On Thursday, when the victim handed over ₹40,000 to the officer at his residence, the team caught him red-handed.
  • A three-hour search was conducted at his home, and he was thoroughly questioned.
