Cabinet Approves Aid for Boys under POCSO in Crime Victim Compensation Scheme

The Uttarakhand cabinet has approved amendments to the Crime Victim Compensation Scheme-2013, ensuring financial aid for boys who are victims of sexual offences registered under the POCSO Act. Earlier, the scheme only covered female victims.

The revised scheme, now notified as the Uttarakhand Crime Victim Compensation Scheme 2025, provides assistance ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹7 lakh depending on the severity of the offence. This marks the third amendment since its launch in 2013, following changes in 2014 and 2016.

The amendment aligns with POCSO Court directives, aiming to provide timely, fair, and adequate financial support to affected children. Under the new structure, compensation includes:

  • Penetrative sexual assault (Section 4): ₹1–7 lakh
  • Aggravated penetrative sexual assault (Section 6): ₹1–7 lakh
  • Sexual assault (Section 7): ₹50,000–1 lakh
  • Aggravated sexual assault (Section 9): ₹50,000–2 lakh
  • Sexual harassment (Section 11): ₹20,000–1 lakh
  • Use of child for pornographic purposes (Section 14): ₹50,000–1 lakh
