A tragic accident took place near Chhibro Power House in Vikasnagar, where a car plunged into a 200-meter-deep gorge, killing a young man from Himachal Pradesh and leaving a father and his four-year-old daughter critically injured. The injured were initially treated at the sub-district hospital in Vikasnagar and later referred to Graphic Era Hospital.
According to officials, the accident happened on Wednesday around 2 p.m. when Jaipal (32), along with his daughter Tashi Chauhan, was traveling from Kalsi to their village on the Koti road in his Alto car. Also in the car was 25-year-old Ankit from Jamna village, Sirmaur, Himachal Pradesh. The car lost control near Chhibro Power House, skidded off the road, and fell into a deep gorge, eventually getting stuck along the Tons River bank. Ankit was thrown out of the vehicle and fell into the river.

After receiving an alert from Dehradun’s city control room, a team from Kalsi Police Station, along with the SDRF, reached the scene. Led by Sub-Inspector Suresh Tomar from SDRF Post Dakpathar, the rescue team, equipped with essential rescue tools, descended into the gorge. With support from the police and local villagers, they managed to pull out all three victims despite challenging conditions. Due to the steep terrain, SDRF’s flood experts used the river route to transport the injured via stretchers to safer ground.
Following the rescue, all three were transported to the sub-district hospital. Unfortunately, Ankit was declared dead by the doctors, while Jaipal and Tashi were referred to a higher center for further treatment.
Kalsi Police Station Sub-Inspector Neeraj Kathait confirmed that the critically injured father and daughter are now being treated at Graphic Era Hospital. The family of the deceased has been informed, and an investigation into the accident’s cause is underway.
