The Census Department has issued a public alert urging citizens to remain cautious during the ongoing digital census process. As part of the first phase, self enumeration has already begun, and officials have warned people to stay alert against possible cyber fraud.
According to the Census Department, the Census Alert is important as this is the first time the entire process is being conducted digitally. Citizens have been given the option to complete self enumeration through an official portal, making it crucial to avoid fake links and apps.
Officials clarified that there is only one official portal for self enumeration, and no mobile application or alternative website has been authorised. People have been advised not to click on unknown links or download suspicious apps, as cyber criminals may try to exploit the process.
The Census Alert also states that during self enumeration, an OTP will be sent only to the mobile number entered on the official portal. Citizens must not share any bank details, Aadhaar OTP, or personal financial information with anyone, as this could lead to fraud.
From April 25, enumerators will start visiting households. During these visits, they will only ask a set of 33 questions and will not demand any documents. If a person has already completed self enumeration, they will only need to provide their Self Enumeration ID for verification.
Officials further clarified that enumerators will not generate any OTP during home visits. They will only collect basic information, including a mobile number. Each enumerator will carry an official identity card with name, photograph, and QR code for verification.

The Census Alert emphasizes that the census process is completely free, and any suspicious calls or messages should be reported immediately on the cyber helpline number 1930 or through the cyber crime portal. Authorities have urged people to stay vigilant, follow official guidelines, and ensure safe participation in the census process.
