Chakrata in Uttarakhand witnessed the season’s second snowfall, delighting tourists and turning the region into a winter wonderland. Gangotri and Yamunotri Dham have also been enveloped in a white blanket of snow. The snowfall, coupled with rain in several areas, has significantly intensified the cold in the state. Weather scientists had already predicted rain and snowfall in the higher reaches of the state.
On Monday afternoon, higher altitudes of Chakrata, including Lohari, Lokhandi, Devban, and Koti Kanasar, began experiencing snowfall. The snow continues to accumulate, reaching nearly an inch so far. If the weather persists, heavy snowfall is expected overnight.
Similarly, snowfall continues in Yamunotri Dham and its surrounding areas, while lower regions have started experiencing light drizzle. Mukhba, the winter abode of the Ganga goddess, also saw snowfall.
In Chamoli district, clouds dominated the skies throughout the morning, with snowfall in the higher regions. In areas like Niti and Mana valleys, the cold has increased so much that rivers and waterfalls have frozen. Snowfall began in the lower regions during the afternoon hours.
