Rescue work resumed in Tharali on Tuesday morning after last week’s cloudburst caused widespread damage. At the Raadibagad area, heavy machinery and vehicles are being used to remove debris. Earlier, operations had been carried out through the weekend in the disaster-hit zones, but one elderly man remains missing.
Officials confirmed that 78-year-old Gangadatt Joshi from Chepdon village went missing after being swept away while trying to save important documents from his shop during the flash flood. Rescue teams continued their third consecutive day of search but have yet to trace him. Meanwhile, residents of Raadibagad have been cleaning debris from their homes.
Tehsildar Akshay Pankaj said all damage reports are being compiled and the search for the missing elderly man is ongoing. Chamoli District Magistrate Dr. Sandeep Tiwari assured that all disaster relief and rescue operations are being carried out swiftly. Hazardous trees are being removed, highways have been cleared, and efforts will be made to secure government buildings and residential areas.
Local community support has also strengthened relief efforts. Around 25 families from Tharali, Dewrada, Kotdeep, and nearby villages are staying at the Kulsari relief camp. On Monday, Tharali Press Club Secretary Sanjay Kandari, DEO Mahavir Negi, BMM Alok Negi, and GRM Yogendra Rawat distributed fruits and bottled water at the camp. Social worker Avtar Danu’s team served breakfast, while former BJYM district president Devendra Negi, Karan Singh, and Guddu Khatri also provided relief material. The administration has ensured proper facilities for families in the camp.Chamoli cloudburst Tharali rescue operations
