Landslide Hits Nandnagar’s Band Bazaar, 25 Shops at Risk, 34 Families Relocated

In Chamoli’s Nandnagar area, a severe case of land subsidence has struck Band Bazaar, forcing the relocation of 34 families as a safety measure. Nearly 25 shops have come under direct threat, raising concerns over livelihood losses for local traders.

The impact was also seen in Kunwar Colony, where deep cracks up to one foot wide appeared in agricultural fields, damaging fertile land and making it unsafe for cultivation. Several trees were uprooted due to the shifting soil.

Among the worst affected, Sangram Singh’s four-room house collapsed entirely, leaving his family homeless. Cowsheds belonging to Surendra Singh, Vikram Singh, Gambheer Singh, and Chandan Singh were also severely damaged in the incident.

Officials have started assessing the damage, while locals demand immediate rehabilitation and long-term preventive measures to safeguard the settlement from recurring disasters.
