Chamoli Landslide: 8 Workers Injured at Vishnugad Hydropower Project Site

A major landslide struck the under-construction Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydropower Project site in Helang, Chamoli, causing panic and injuring eight workers. At the time of the incident, around 40–50 laborers were working in different sections of the site, with 12 directly affected by the landslide.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the dam construction area operated by THDC. Rescue teams from the local administration, police, SDRF, and health department swiftly reached the site and evacuated the injured. All eight injured workers were taken to hospitals, with four sustaining serious injuries.

Chamoli District Magistrate Sandeep Tiwari confirmed that no fatalities were reported. Four injured workers are being treated at the THDC hospital, while two critically injured have been shifted to Swami Vivekananda Hospital in Pipalkoti.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in parts of Dehradun, Pauri, Tehri, Rudraprayag, Nainital, and Bageshwar. Thunderstorms and intense rainfall are expected across the state until August 7.
