In Chamoli district, a nearly 50-meter stretch of the Mallaari–Niti Highway near Tapovan collapsed, completely disrupting traffic. This route is the only road link to the remote Niti-Mallari region, and the collapse has also halted the movement of Army vehicles deployed in the border area.
According to a report from the District Disaster Management Department, as of Tuesday evening, seven motor roads remain blocked across the district. These include one district road and two rural roads under the Public Works Department, and four roads under PMGSY. Restoration efforts are currently underway by both concerned departments. No major casualties or property damage has been reported so far.
Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Bhaila River—originating from the Avana Bugyal region—are posing a serious threat to the Gangotri National Highway near Sukki. Locals say the flow in the Bhagirathi River appears more intense than during the 2013 disaster, prompting fears of damage near Dabrani on the Gangotri route.
