Dehradun – Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, significant efforts are being made to enhance healthcare services for Char Dham Yatra 2025. The government has announced key measures, including new hospitals in Kedarnath and Badrinath, deployment of 154 ambulances, and the introduction of helicopter and boat ambulance services.

According to Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, 25 specialist doctors, 20 medical relief posts, and 31 health check-up centers will be set up along the pilgrimage route. Additionally, 37 permanent health centers in transit districts have been strengthened. The government is also focusing on upgrading the E-Health Dham portal and identifying high-risk travelers. The number of ‘health mitras’ (first medical responders) is being increased to ensure quick medical assistance during the journey.

Despite these efforts, challenges persist. Every year, Char Dham’s remote terrain poses difficulties in delivering healthcare services. Last year alone, over 34,000 medical emergencies were reported, with 1,011 patients requiring ambulance transport and 90 needing helicopter evacuation—many of whom faced delays in receiving timely care. While new hospitals and services are positive steps, adverse weather conditions, poor communication networks, and challenging geography will test their implementation.

The success of the E-Health Dham portal also depends on improving internet connectivity in the region, which has been a recurring issue. The government’s initiatives, such as incentives for healthcare workers, an increased number of health mitras, and a strengthened emergency call center, indicate a strong commitment to pilgrim safety.

If these preparations are effectively executed on the ground, this year’s yatra could be safer and more convenient for devotees. However, the real test of these measures will only be seen once the pilgrimage begins.
