Chardham Yatra: Landslides Disrupt Routes to Kedarnath and Badrinath

The 2025 Chardham Yatra has been severely affected by recent disasters, leaving only Kedarnath and Badrinath accessible to pilgrims. However, both routes face major challenges due to frequent landslides. In Uttarkashi district, the calamity has completely halted pilgrimages to Gangotri and Yamunotri, creating a rare silence at the usually vibrant shrines.

Traditionally, pilgrim numbers decline during the monsoon and rise again in September. This year, however, heavy rains and subsequent landslides have blocked access to Gangotri and Yamunotri. Since the yatra began on April 30, more than 42.54 lakh devotees have visited the shrines. At present, Kedarnath and Badrinath are witnessing daily footfall of 3,000–5,000 pilgrims.

The Badrinath route continues to face disruptions at Kameda and Lambagad due to landslides, while the Sonprayag–Gaurikund stretch leading to Kedarnath remains a major concern.

Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said the disaster has slowed the pilgrimage, but travel is expected to regain pace once weather conditions improve. He advised pilgrims to plan their journey only after checking weather updates, as the risk of landslides remains high during this rainy season.
