Chardham Yatra: Early Travel Against Trip Card Dates Causing Delays at Check Posts

Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple

Several pilgrims arriving for the Chardham Yatra are beginning their journeys before the scheduled date mentioned in their trip cards, leading to delays at check posts. Transport department staff at checkpoints like Herbertpur and Katapathar are having to cancel these trip cards and issue new ones, which takes time and causes long waiting periods for travelers.

Every day, around 2,000 to 2,500 pilgrims pass through these check posts en route to Yamunotri and Gangotri. Their trip cards and green cards are being thoroughly verified. However, many pilgrims are attempting to travel ahead of their assigned dates based solely on registration, which is not permitted by the system at check posts.

According to rules, a minimum of five days is allocated for visiting two dhams, seven days for three, and nine days for all four dhams. A new trip card is generated only the day after the previous trip duration ends. This buffer ensures that drivers receive adequate rest, thereby improving safety and reducing the risk of accidents during the journey.
