Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in New Delhi on Saturday for a key diplomatic visit. During his stay, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
China’s Foreign Ministry stated that Wang Yi’s visit aims to implement the consensus reached by leaders of both countries and follow up on the outcomes of the latest round of border talks. Spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that Beijing hopes to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and manage differences constructively to ensure stable growth in bilateral ties.
The visit comes at a critical time, shortly after the U.S. imposed a 50% tariff on Indian oil imports from Russia—a move India has strongly criticized. Following this, NSA Doval traveled to Moscow and later extended an invitation to Wang Yi for talks on the border dispute, which China accepted. Wang Yi will also hold in-depth discussions with EAM Jaishankar on bilateral relations and mutual interests.
Prime Minister Modi is expected to visit China later this year to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1.
