Dehradun, 13 Oct: Preparations are underway across Uttarakhand for the State Foundation Day celebrations on 9 November. The occasion assumes special significance this year as Uttarakhand will be completing 25 years of its formation. The State Government has decided to celebrate the entire year as the Silver Jubilee Year.

In this connection, the State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, today, approved a proposal from the Legislative Department to convene a special two-day session of the Assembly. The Cabinet also authorised Chief Minister Dhami to finalise and announce the exact dates of the session.

The officials shared that the special session is being planned to commemorate the Silver Jubilee Year, following the conclusion of the Monsoon Session held in August at Gairsain, the State’s summer capital. Unlike the Monsoon Session, the upcoming Silver Jubilee special session will take place in Dehradun. The sources further claimed that the session could possibly be held on 3 and 4 November, though the final schedule will be officially announced only after the CM’s approval.

It may be recalled that the decision to convene the special session comes against the backdrop of the Opposition’s demand for extensive discussions on various issues during the Monsoon Session, which had been adjourned sine die after the presentation of the supplementary budget. The Congress had then strongly protested the abrupt adjournment.

The forthcoming special session is expected to witness detailed deliberations on the developmental journey of Uttarakhand over the past twenty-five years, the challenges that lie ahead, and the government’s vision for the future.

Speaking informally with some media persons after the cabinet briefing, CM Dhami observed that this year marks a historic milestone for Uttarakhand. He stated that the State has made progress and has witnessed various ups and downs, gaining invaluable experience. Despite the challenges, the state has achieved steady progress since its formation. He added that the special session of the state assembly will provide an opportunity to review this journey comprehensively and chart the course for the future.
