CM Dhami Pays Tribute to Farmers, Ploughs Field and Plants Paddy in Nagra Terai

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday paid tribute to the tireless efforts of farmers by personally ploughing his field and planting paddy in his hometown of Nagra Terai, Khatima. The CM said the experience revived memories of his early days spent in the fields and reaffirmed his deep respect for the farming community.

Sharing pictures on his Facebook account, CM Dhami wrote, “Today in Nagra Terai, I planted paddy in my own field, recalling old memories and paying heartfelt tribute to the labour, sacrifice, and dedication of our farmers. Annadata (food providers) are not only the backbone of our economy but also the custodians of our culture and traditions.”

He further said that stepping into the mud once again reminded him of the roots that define Uttarakhand’s agrarian identity. On this occasion, the CM also participated in “Hudkiya Baul,” a traditional folk expression, offering prayers to Bhoomi Devta (god of land), Indra Devta (god of rain), and Megh Devta (god of clouds)—a spiritual invocation tied deeply to the sowing season in the hills.

The symbolic gesture by the Chief Minister comes at a time when farming challenges continue to dominate rural discourse. His act aims to highlight the importance of self-reliance, tradition, and the critical role of farmers in building the state’s economy and cultural legacy.
