Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in the ‘Run for Yoga’ event held at MKP College on Sunday. As part of the programme, he led a symbolic march from Gandhi Park to the college, encouraging people of all age groups—including youth, women, and the elderly—to adopt yoga as a daily practice.
The Chief Minister appealed to everyone to actively participate in the upcoming International Yoga Day, stating that yoga is a vital part of India’s ancient heritage. He said the knowledge developed by sages to unite the body, mind, and soul through yoga is now serving as a lifeline for the world. Yoga, he added, promotes a healthy and disciplined lifestyle, and its growing global popularity reflects its universal benefits.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s successful proposal at the United Nations to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day, CM Dhami said that Uttarakhand, the land of yoga and spirituality, has immense potential to become a global hub for yoga and wellness tourism. The state government is actively working toward this goal.
He also spoke about the recently approved state yoga policy under which up to ₹20 lakh in subsidies is being offered to develop yoga and meditation centres. Additionally, existing yoga centres are being supported, and up to ₹10 lakh in research grants are available for those working in the fields of yoga, meditation, and naturopathy.
The Chief Minister concluded by urging all citizens to adopt a disciplined and healthy lifestyle by making yoga a regular part of their routine.
