Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized the need for effective implementation of government schemes through a “triple-engine” model — the Centre, the state, and urban local bodies. Addressing mayors and municipal chairpersons, he stated that staying in power is not the goal; serving the public must be the primary mission. He also made several announcements to strengthen urban governance.
The interaction took place at Mukhyasevak Sadan on Tuesday during the “Shahar se Samvaad” programme organized by the Urban Development Department. The CM encouraged municipal leaders to treat their offices not just as administrative units but as service centres, urging them to actively monitor areas prone to corruption and establish a zero-tolerance approach toward unethical conduct.
Key Announcements by CM Dhami
The Chief Minister launched three web portals aimed at supporting women’s self-help groups. He announced plans to digitize municipal offices, establish Rajat Jayanti Parks, and set up vending zones in urban areas. He also declared that a request will be made to the central government to convert tied funds into untied funds for greater flexibility.
Additionally, training programs will be initiated to set up high-tech salons and parlours in urban areas — 10 in each municipal corporation, 5 in each municipal council, and 3 in each nagar panchayat — employing local men and women.
Urban Issues Highlighted
Calling municipal bodies the soul of urban governance, CM Dhami pointed out persistent issues like drainage, waste management, and traffic congestion. He urged local bodies to intensify efforts to resolve these challenges. The event was attended by Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, all municipal heads, Secretary Nitesh Jha, and Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal.
