CM performs Govardhan Puja, calls for collective commitment to cow welfare

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed Govardhan Puja at the cowshed located within his official residence, praying for the prosperity and collective well-being of Uttarakhand’s people.

Dhami said Govardhan Puja symbolises harmony between humans, animals, and nature. He added that the festival reminds everyone of India’s cultural roots and its message of protecting both the environment and living beings.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that Gau Mata holds a revered position in Sanatan culture and agrarian life. Serving and protecting cows, he said, not only preserves faith but also sustains livelihoods and promotes self-reliance among rural families.

Dhami urged citizens to unite for cow protection and announced key welfare measures. The daily allowance for destitute cattle has been increased from Rs 5 to Rs 80 per animal, and a 60% subsidy will be provided for those constructing cow shelters. He added that 54 Gau Sadans are currently under construction across the state.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government’s commitment to promoting cow welfare and environmental conservation, saying that Govardhan Puja reflects India’s timeless message of devotion, gratitude, and respect for all forms of life.
