On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a series of benefits for teachers, including cashless medical treatment facilities. The announcement was made during the Teachers’ Day felicitation ceremony held at Lok Bhawan in Lucknow, where 81 teachers from basic and secondary education departments were honored with the State Teacher Award.
The Chief Minister said that around nine lakh teachers and their families across basic, secondary, aided, and self-financed schools will benefit from the cashless healthcare scheme. Additionally, Shikshamitra, instructors, and school cooks will also be included in the facility. Yogi further assured that honorariums for Shikshamitra and instructors will be increased soon, with a committee already working on recommendations.
During the event, tablets were distributed to principals to promote smart classes and enhance monitoring in schools. CM Yogi highlighted the progress of basic education in the state, noting that over 60 lakh students are currently enrolled in council schools and more than 5,000 Bal Vatika centers have already been established.
He also urged SCERT to ensure that textbooks feature Indian characters, drawing inspiration from Ramayana, Mahabharata, and stories of national heroes. Stressing lighter textbooks and activity-based learning, he said this approach would foster greater interest among children.
Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh welcomed the gathering, emphasizing the inspirational legacy of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Teachers’ Day.
