India has secured the opportunity to host the 5th edition of the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) in 2027, one of the world’s largest maritime security forums. The announcement was made during the 4th CGGS held in Rome, Italy, on 11–12 September, where India’s proposal was unanimously approved by all participating nations.
The Indian delegation was led by Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal Shivmani, who confirmed that the 2027 summit will be organized in Chennai as part of the Indian Coast Guard’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The three-day summit will feature the International Coast Guard Fleet Review and the World Coast Guard Seminar. Its primary objective will be to strengthen global maritime cooperation, address shared challenges, and enhance mutual trust and interoperability among participating nations.
Highlighting the importance of collective efforts, DG Shivmani emphasized that no country can tackle maritime challenges alone. The summit will serve as a platform for nations to work together on issues such as maritime security, pollution control, crime prevention, and technology collaboration.
During the Rome summit, Indian and Italian Coast Guard chiefs also held bilateral talks under the India–Italy Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in maritime security, rescue operations, environmental protection, crime prevention, information sharing, and training.
