The construction of the highly anticipated ropeway project for Yamunotri Dham has officially begun. The work was inaugurated at the proposed Lower Terminal in Kharsali, with a ground-breaking ceremony organized by Yamunotri Sky Car Pvt. Ltd., the company entrusted with the project.
The Uttarakhand state government has assigned the responsibility of building the ropeway through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to Yamunotri Sky Car Pvt. Ltd. The total length of the ropeway will be 3.9 kilometers, designed to transport up to 580 people per hour in one direction. The project, which is estimated to cost around ₹170 crore, will consist of 10 towers, connecting Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham. The lower terminal will be located in Kharsali, while the upper terminal will be near the police station at Yamunotri Dham.

The ropeway will operate at a speed of six meters per second, allowing passengers to travel from Kharsali to Yamunotri Dham in just 15 minutes. CEO of Yamunotri Sky Car Pvt. Ltd., Aviral Jain, informed District Magistrate Dr. Mehrban Singh Bisht about the commencement of the project and mentioned that the construction of the lower terminal in Kharsali is underway. This terminal will feature parking facilities for 250 cars, 30 bikes, and 40 traveler vans.
District Magistrate Dr. Bisht extended his best wishes for the project and emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous progress to ensure the timely completion of the ropeway.
