Due to rising rivers and blocked safari routes during the monsoon, Bijrani and Sitabani tourism zones of Corbett National Park will be closed for tourists from Monday evening, June 30. The decision follows the earlier closure of Bhandarpani and Kaladhungi zones on June 26 due to poor road conditions.
Currently, only Bijrani and Sitabani zones remained open for day safaris, but they too will shut down after the evening slot on June 30. Additionally, pedestrian tourist sites such as Corbett Fall (Kaladhungi) and Barati Rau (Chunakhan) will also be closed till October, depending on weather conditions.
However, some zones will remain open during the monsoon:
- Dhela, Jhirna, and Garjiya in Corbett Tiger Reserve
- Fato and Hathidagar in Terai Western Forest Division
These areas may still face temporary closures in case of heavy rainfall, according to Corbett Director Dr. Saket Badola and DFO Digant Nayak.
On Sunday, heavy rains disrupted safaris in Bijrani, Garjiya, and Sitabani zones.
- In Bijrani and Garjiya, roads became submerged, forcing vehicles to return after just 5 km.
- In Sitabani, Kaliagar Nala was in spate, preventing further movement.
All affected zones will reopen in October, based on weather clearance.
