The Rouse Avenue Court has granted relief to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, staying his arrest till February 24 while directing him to join the investigation. The decision came after Khan filed an anticipatory bail plea.
FIR Filed Over Alleged Attack on Police Team
An FIR was lodged against Khan for allegedly leading an attack on a police team in Jamia Nagar. He faces charges of rioting, attacking police personnel, and obstructing government work. The case relates to the attempted rescue of Shahbaz Khan, an attempted murder accused, from a crime branch team.
Police Allegations & Investigation Status
According to DCP South-East Ravi Kumar Singh, the police had gone to question Khan at his residence, but he was not present. During a raid in Jamia Nagar, a crime branch team was allegedly obstructed in his presence, allowing the accused to escape.
Officials claim that Inspector Sunil Kalandhe’s team was attacked, and Khan was involved in facilitating the escape.
Amanatullah Khan’s Electoral Win
In the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP’s Amanatullah Khan won from the Okhla constituency, defeating BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by over 23,000 votes. Khan secured 88,943 votes, while Chaudhary received 65,304 votes.
