COVID-19 continues to surge across India, with Delhi witnessing the first instance in the new wave where three people died in a single day. This takes the capital’s death toll to 11 since January. The deceased include two women aged 57 and 83, and a 57-year-old man—all with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, lung issues, and high blood pressure.
While the recent fatalities raise concern, active cases in Delhi have shown a downward trend over the past three days. As per the Health Department’s COVID dashboard, active cases fell to 672 on Saturday, with no new infections reported. In the last 24 hours, 212 patients recovered from the virus. Since January 1, Delhi has recorded 1,960 cases.
India’s national tally shows Delhi in second place in terms of total reported cases in the current wave.
Experts say the latest COVID variants spread quickly but are not necessarily more severe. Vulnerable groups—elderly, pregnant women, young children, and those with chronic illnesses—remain at higher risk. Symptoms usually begin mildly but can escalate to serious respiratory issues.
Common Symptoms of COVID-19 Include:
- Fever or chills
- Dry cough
- Sore throat
- Headache and body aches
- Fatigue
- Loss of smell or taste
- Breathing difficulty
Doctors advise against panic but recommend medical consultation if cold symptoms are accompanied by breathing trouble. Most patients are recovering at home without hospitalization.
