Dehradun – Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman chaired a review meeting at the Secretariat, instructing officials to expedite the preparation of District Disaster Management Plans (DDMP) and State Disaster Management Plans (SDMP). He emphasized adherence to NDMA guidelines to strengthen disaster preparedness at both state and district levels.
USDMA’s ACEO DIG Rajkumar Negi highlighted the importance of these plans, directing district magistrates to ensure quality and timely implementation. Meanwhile, ACEO Administration Anand Swaroop urged the timely submission of SDRF and SDMF fund demands and the formulation of crisis management plans for tunnels, dams, and major projects.
In a separate meeting, NDMA reviewed state-level preparations for the upcoming heatwave season. IMD scientists predicted higher-than-normal temperatures this year. NDMA directed states to modify school and labor work hours, implement heatwave action plans, and establish heat stroke rooms in hospitals. Additionally, all health centers must be equipped with cooling devices, clean drinking water must be available in public places, and ambulances should be prepared for heat stroke emergencies.
The health department has been instructed to train doctors and appoint heatwave nodal officers in each state.
