Dehradun has achieved significant progress in air quality, securing the 19th rank in the National Clean Air Survey conducted by the Government of India in June. Last year, the city was at the 37th position. Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal congratulated Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal and the civic body team for the achievement.
The city scored 171.7 points this year compared to 126.5 points in the previous survey. The improvement was credited to multiple initiatives taken in the past eight months, including the development of parks, plantation drives, creation of cycling tracks, construction of side pavements to control dust, procurement of 15 e-auto tipper vehicles for door-to-door garbage collection in narrow lanes, and installation of 10 compost machines to process wet waste.
Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal stated that the goal is to make Dehradun a dust-free city. Several proposals have been prepared under the green policy to further promote greenery and sustainable practices. The civic body now aims to secure a place in the top five cities in the next survey.
