Dehradun Airport Launches Digi Yatra, Minister Naidu Flags Off Virtually

The Digi Yatra facility has been launched at Jolly Grant Airport, enabling passengers to experience paperless and contactless travel. Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated the system virtually from Rajkot, calling it a major step towards faster and more efficient air travel.

With the rollout of Digi Yatra, passengers can now enter the airport and proceed through checkpoints using facial recognition technology. After downloading the Digi Yatra app and registering with Aadhaar, mobile number, and travel details, travellers can access the airport through automated gates without showing physical documents.

Officials said the initiative has been introduced at eight airports across the country in this phase, with Dehradun now joining the list. The move is expected to significantly reduce waiting time at entry and boarding points, especially during peak travel periods.

Alongside Digi Yatra, additional passenger facilities such as a fly library, free Wi-Fi, and a dedicated kids’ zone have also been introduced at the airport. The virtual inauguration event connected 57 airports nationwide, where similar upgrades and services were launched.

While the system promises convenience and quicker processing, its effectiveness will depend on user adoption and technical reliability, particularly during high passenger traffic. Airport authorities will need to ensure smooth implementation to avoid disruptions in the initial phase.
