The summer schedule at Jolly Grant Airport has come into effect from March 29 and will remain valid until October 24. Under the new schedule, a total of 34 flights have been approved, with revised timings for several services and new routes added to improve connectivity.
Direct flight services will now connect Dehradun to 12 cities, including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kullu, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Pune, Navi Mumbai, Kolkata, and Pithoragarh. However, the Bhubaneswar route has been excluded from this schedule. Officials said flights on different routes will be introduced in phases over the coming days.
In a significant development, the Digi Yatra facility will also be launched at the airport. The initiative will be virtually inaugurated by Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu. The system enables passengers to enter the airport and complete boarding processes using facial recognition, reducing the need for physical documents.
The Digi Yatra system, cleared by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, allows paperless and contactless travel. Passengers can register through a mobile application by linking their Aadhaar and flight details, after which entry gates will open automatically through facial authentication. Officials said the data is deleted within 24 hours after the journey.
Additional passenger amenities, including free Wi-Fi, a reading area, and a children’s play zone, have also been introduced at the airport. Airport Director Bhupesh C H Negi said these facilities aim to improve overall passenger experience, especially during peak travel seasons.
Meanwhile, a new direct flight between Dehradun and Navi Mumbai has been launched by IndiGo. The flight is scheduled to arrive in Dehradun at 5:35 pm and depart at 6:10 pm, with a travel time of approximately two hours and 25 minutes. The new route is expected to boost connectivity ahead of the Char Dham Yatra and the tourism season.
