A fugitive criminal carrying a reward of ₹1 lakh was arrested near Indramani Badoni Chowk in Dehradun by a joint team of Uttarakhand and Odisha Police. The आरोपी had escaped from judicial custody at a district jail in Cuttack, Odisha, and had been evading arrest for several months.

Police identified the accused as Raja Sahani (34), a resident of Begusarai, Bihar, who was lodged in jail in connection with robbery and two murder cases. He escaped on October 2, 2025, by scaling the prison wall during a festive period when security oversight was reportedly compromised.

Station House Officer K C Bhatt said that the Odisha Police tracked the आरोपी’s location to the Triveni Ghat area. Following this, a joint team conducted surveillance and intercepted a suspicious car near Dhalwala Road. The आरोपी was found sitting in the back seat and was identified by Odisha Police personnel on the spot.

Three other individuals, including a woman, were also present in the vehicle, and their roles are currently under investigation. Police officials stated that the accused will be handed over to Odisha Police after completing legal formalities.

Earlier, Raja Sahani was arrested in a high-profile robbery case involving a jewellery shop in Odisha, where two people were killed during firing. He later escaped custody along with another inmate by cutting iron bars and using a blanket as a rope to climb the jail wall.

The arrest highlights coordinated efforts between state police units, though the initial escape has raised questions about prison security lapses and monitoring during sensitive periods.
