Dehradun – A major real-estate fraud has surfaced in Dehradun after builder Shashwat Garg allegedly fled with crores of rupees collected from investors and banks through a housing project on Mussoorie Road. Police have registered a case against Shashwat, his family members and several bank officials for their role in the suspected scam.
According to Rajpur police, the accused sold the same flat to multiple buyers and obtained bank loans using forged documents. The FIR names Shashwat Garg, his wife Sakshi, father Praveen Garg, mother Anjali Garg, and his brothers-in-law Sulabh and Kushal Goyal. Investigators say the family disappeared with the money shortly after Diwali.
The complaint was lodged by Vivek S. Raj, president of the interim management committee of Arkadia Hillux Society. He stated that the apartment project was being built on land owned by Atul Garg of Rajnagar, Ghaziabad, with a total plan of 121 flats. Construction responsibilities were handled by Praveen Garg and his son Shashwat, with Sakshi Garg also listed as a partner. The two brothers-in-law from Hapur, Kushal and Sulabh Goyal, were also involved in the project.
Several defence personnel and government officers had booked flats in the project, believing it to be a legitimate investment. However, allegations now indicate that multiple units were sold repeatedly to different buyers while fraudulent bank loans were drawn in parallel.

Police have begun examining financial records, loan documents and sale deeds. Action is also expected against bank officials who allegedly facilitated the forged loans. Authorities say the scale of the fraud appears similar to past housing scams in the city, raising concerns for buyers and lending institutions.
