Caretaker murdered by thieves during burglary attempt on Sahastradhara Road

In a shocking incident, two thieves broke into an under-construction building on Sahastradhara Road with the intention of stealing but ended up killing the caretaker. The accused attacked 68-year-old caretaker Jarrar Ahmed, a resident of Jwalapur, Haridwar, with an iron rod after he caught one of them during the burglary attempt.

According to Dehradun SSP Ajay Singh, police received information on August 28 about the murder near the Sahastradhara helipad. SHO Rajpur Shanky Kumar and IT Park Chowki In-charge Deepak Dwivedi rushed to the spot and found the victim lying dead on a cot inside a tin shed with severe head injuries. Forensic experts collected evidence, and an FIR was registered at Rajpur Police Station based on a complaint by contractor Tauseef Ahmed.

During investigation, CCTV footage from nearby areas showed two youths roaming around the crime scene. On Friday, police arrested the accused, 19-year-old Praveen Rawat alias Aman of Chalan village, Sahastradhara Road, and 19-year-old Pawan Kumar of Kathbangla, Rajpur, near Orchid Park.

The duo confessed that they were drug addicts and committed thefts to fund their addiction. On the night of August 27, they entered the construction site around 2 AM and stole a mobile phone and Rs 650 from the caretaker. When the victim woke up and caught Pawan, both attacked him with an iron rod, leading to his death. Police later recovered the weapon used in the murder based on their disclosure.
