Dehradun Police have solved the alleged kidnapping case of a 15-year-old girl, revealing that the complaint was fabricated after the victim’s mother allegedly sold her daughter for marriage. Police have arrested four accused, including the girl’s mother, and safely rescued the minor from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the investigation, the victim’s mother struck a deal to sell her daughter for ₹1.5 lakh. When she did not receive the full amount, she allegedly lodged a false kidnapping complaint to mislead the police.
The case came to light after a woman from the Rajpur police station area reported that her 15-year-old daughter had been abducted. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun, constituted a special team to trace the minor and arrest those involved. Using mobile surveillance, CCTV footage, and field investigation, police tracked the girl’s location to Muzaffarnagar.
A police team conducted a coordinated operation and rescued the minor safely. During the operation, two accused, Manish and Lavi Kumar, were arrested.
During interrogation, Lavi Kumar allegedly confessed that he had purchased the minor from her mother through a woman for ₹1.5 lakh. He further admitted that he later sold the girl to Manish for ₹2 lakh, who allegedly intended to marry her.
Based on the disclosures made during questioning, police arrested Pinky Malik from Muzaffarnagar and Neelam Devi from the IT Park area on Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun.
Following the investigation, police added several serious charges to the case, including Sections 64, 3(5), 65(1), 87 and 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 5(L)/6 and 16/17 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said the rescued minor has been placed under protection and further legal proceedings are underway.
