Uttarakhand – Additional Director General of Police (Crime & Law and Order) V. Murugesan reviewed Dehradun’s traffic management plan ahead of the upcoming festive season, directing officials to ensure smooth traffic flow and strict enforcement against illegal encroachments and violations.
During the detailed review meeting, ADG Murugesan instructed that all roadside encroachments across the district be cleared immediately and made it the responsibility of concerned station house officers to take follow-up action. He emphasized that traffic police and CPU personnel must be properly briefed before deployment, and officers should be strategically positioned at crowded intersections to prevent congestion.
Murugesan also directed officials to prepare a district-level action plan for managing festival traffic and to widely publicize it through social media and FM radio to help citizens plan their routes. He added that officers on duty must act swiftly in case of traffic jams and ensure timely clearance to maintain uninterrupted flow.
The meeting was attended by IG (Crime & Law and Order) Nilesh Anand Bharane, SP (City) Pramod Kumar, SP (Traffic) Lokjeet Singh, and other senior officials.
As part of the preparations, Dehradun Police has released a comprehensive Route and Parking Plan, identifying specific parking zones across areas like Rajpur Road, Chakrata Road, Sahastradhara, Patel Nagar, and others. No-entry restrictions have been imposed for loading vehicles in busy areas such as Paltan Bazaar, Tilak Road, and Tehsil Chowk between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. City bus and Vikram routes have also been revised to reduce congestion.
In case of heavy traffic, diversion routes have been marked at key junctions including Survey Chowk, Ghantaghar, and Dharampur, while zero zones will be implemented in dense markets like Paltan Bazaar and Dhama Wala where only pedestrians will be allowed.
To strengthen on-ground management, 10 traffic mobile teams, 10 cranes, and over 400 police and auxiliary personnel have been deployed. Continuous monitoring is being done through 29 ANPR, 105 RLVD, and 9 SVDS cameras from the Traffic Control Room.
The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by parking only in designated spaces, avoiding no-parking zones, and preferring public transport over private vehicles during the festive rush.
