A horrific accident occurred early Sunday morning at the Asharodi checkpost near Dehradun, claiming the lives of four people and leaving one seriously injured. The victims were travelling in a Ritz car with a Haryana number plate, which rammed into a trailer from behind after the trailer suddenly braked.
According to police, the incident took place around 3:15 AM. The trailer was headed from Saharanpur towards Dehradun and slowed down at the Asharodi checkpost. The car following it failed to stop in time and got lodged under the trailer. The impact was so severe that two passengers in the front seats were trapped inside the vehicle.
Emergency responders, including a fire service unit, had to cut through the car door using a hydraulic cutter to extract the deceased. Three passengers from the back seat were rushed to Coronation Hospital, where doctors declared four of the five occupants dead. One person is undergoing treatment.
Clement Town Police Station in-charge Mohan Singh stated that all the deceased are residents of Haryana. Efforts are underway to establish their identities and contact their families.
This is not the first time an accident has occurred at this location. Authorities noted that a similar incident took place recently when a truck collided with a car due to brake failure.
