Lawyers in Dehradun held a large protest rally on Saturday, shutting down court operations and blocking several key roads in the capital to press for their long-pending demands. Heavy traffic congestion was reported around Prince Chowk, Gandhi Road, Tehsil, Darshan Lal Chowk, and the Clock Tower during the demonstration.

Hundreds of advocates marched in two lines from Prince Chowk to Ghantaghar before returning to the protest site outside the court complex on Haridwar Road, where they staged a sit-in. Court work and registrar office operations remained completely suspended for the day, affecting litigants and routine legal procedures.

Bar Association Secretary Rajbir Bisht said that the struggle committee has already submitted the proposal of advocates’ demands to the government, but no concrete assurance has been received yet. He said the delay has increased frustration among the legal community, forcing them to intensify their agitation.

The rally concluded around noon, but the traffic chaos continued across nearby routes for hours. Advocates unanimously decided to extend the protest timeline, stating that further action will continue until the government provides a clear and time-bound commitment. Residents and commuters expressed inconvenience over repeated disruptions, while lawyers questioned the government’s silence on key issues impacting the legal fraternity.
