Dehradun Municipal Board Passes ₹329 Crore Budget After 11-Hour Meeting

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation’s third board meeting on Tuesday lasted nearly 11 and a half hours and ended with the approval of a ₹329.35 crore budget for the financial year 2025–26. Despite repeated disruptions and heated exchanges, over 40 proposals were cleared, including policies on stray dogs, dairy regulation, street lighting, and a 50% rebate on user charges.

The session began at 11:15 am when Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal arrived, followed by Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, who called for two minutes of silence for victims of the Dharali-Tharali disaster. Soon after, BJP councillor Vishal’s remarks triggered a protest from Congress members, who staged a sit-in inside the hall. The ruckus delayed proceedings, but negotiations eventually resumed, allowing the budget to be passed.

Key approvals included four proposals under the health section and 11 from the construction department. While proposals related to “Pratyasha” were initially rejected on legal grounds, they were later cleared in the final phase of the meeting late at night.
