Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday transferred nearly ₹11 crore directly into the bank accounts of more than 4,400 registered construction workers under various welfare schemes of the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

The amount was transferred with a single click during a programme held at the Chief Minister’s residence. The beneficiaries received financial assistance under schemes including post-marriage assistance, death compensation, maternity benefits, and educational assistance.

During the event, the Chief Minister directed the Labour Department to expand awareness about welfare schemes so that more eligible workers can benefit. He instructed officials to organise special camps across different regions to ensure wider outreach and simplify access to government assistance.

Dhami also stressed the need to provide essential facilities near workers’ workplaces to improve convenience. He asked the department to conduct regular health check-up camps for labourers and organise special initiatives to promote the education of their children.

Emphasising transparency in the implementation of welfare schemes, the Chief Minister directed officials to make greater use of information technology and ensure that financial assistance reaches only eligible beneficiaries.
