Dehradun – To reduce daytime traffic jams and speed up utility projects, the Dehradun District Administration has allowed agencies to dig roads at night — but with strict conditions. The work can be done only between 10 PM and 6 AM, and agencies will have to restore the road before morning.

District Magistrate Savin Bansal said the decision was made to help departments like UPCL, GAIL, UUSDA, and ADB lay underground electricity, water, sewage, and gas lines without disrupting public life. However, he warned that the administration’s Quick Response Team (QRT) will be closely monitoring every site.

“If any agency digs beyond permission, leaves roads uneven, or ignores safety barricades, their machinery will be seized and FIRs will be filed,” the DM stated. He added that the city cannot be left in a mess for long periods, and any delay or negligence that troubles the public will invite strict action.

All road-cutting permissions will be issued after November 10, and only after agencies deposit money for road repairs. They must also take NOCs from Smart City Limited, since ongoing digging has damaged smart city cameras and cables in the past.

The DM has assigned SDM Kumkum Joshi to inspect works carried out by UPCL, GAIL, and UUSDA. Each department must post an on-site supervisor to ensure work quality and safety standards.

The meeting was attended by officials from Smart City Limited, PWD, UPCL, ADB, UUSDA, GAIL, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone, who were all directed to complete their works on time and maintain proper safety measures.
