For the first time, Dehradun’s disaster response setup will include a Rapid Communication System, strengthening its emergency coordination amid ongoing weather disturbances. District Magistrate Savin Bansal has initiated this new communication grid to ensure faster dissemination of information across all emergency departments in real time. The upgraded system is part of a wider plan to enhance disaster preparedness in the city.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for Dehradun, along with Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital districts. These areas are expected to witness heavy rainfall with thunder and wind speeds reaching 40–50 km/h. Other regions may see light showers. From Monday, weather conditions are expected to improve across the state. However, a clear sky is likely to cause a sharp rise in temperatures, especially in the plains.
Dehradun has experienced intermittent rainfall for the past week, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. School schedules have been affected, and the city’s minimum temperature has dipped to 17°C. Tourist activity has declined, with some visitors cutting short their trips. Streets are also seeing increased mud accumulation due to the persistent showers.
The new communication system, coupled with improved siren installations, marks a significant leap in Dehradun’s readiness to tackle emergencies more efficiently in the future.
