Dehradun, 8 Oct: Following instructions from District Magistrate Savin Bansal, Additional District Magistrate (Administration) Jaybharat Singh today held a meeting at the Collectorate here today with representatives from multiple trade associations and officials of related departments. The meeting was focussed on the issue of temporary licences for firecracker sales during the Diwali festival.
The gathering reached a unanimous decision that, starting next year, licences for firecracker shops will be issued strictly for designated open grounds. The district administration has claimed that this decision has full support from the traders who participated in today’s meeting.
Jaybharat Singh appealed to trade body members to extend full cooperation towards the administration in implementing these new arrangements. He further directed the officials from police, fire, and administrative departments to ensure that licences are granted in strict adherence to the prescribed regulations.
It was reiterated that firecracker shops are strictly banned in key city areas in Dehradun, including Paltan Bazaar – Kotwali to Ghantaghar, Dhamawala Bazaar – Kotwali to Babuganj (Adhat Bazaar), Motibazaar – Paltan Bazaar to Purani Sabzi Mandi at Hanuman Chowk, Hanuman Chowk-Jhanda Mohalla, Ramleela Bazaar to Band Bazaar, Anand Chowk to Lakshman Chowk, the entire stretch of Dispensary Road, Ghantaghar to Hanuman Mandir on Chakrata Road, and the stretch from Survey Chowk to DAV College via Karnpur Main Bazaar. The decision encompasses all public roads, streets, and inner lanes in densely populated regions. The firecracker sales have been prohibited in areas inaccessible to fire service vehicles. It was also stated that vendors found placing racks, beds, or any selling items on pavements or roads outside shops will face strict action.
The district administration has set the licence application fee at Rs 850. Applications for licences will be accepted from today until 13 October 2025. Submission of applications after this period will not be considered. Applicants are required to provide an Aadhaar card, a photograph of the proprietor inside the shop premises, police and fire department NOCs, electricity bill for the shop, and either the shop’s registry or municipal tax receipt. Licences will be issued only upon meeting all mandatory safety requirements for firecracker shops. Sale of firecrackers directly from warehouses is also not allowed. Firecracker shops will be permitted to operate exclusively from 17 to 21 October 2025 for the Diwali festival.
Among those who participated in the meeting today included City Magistrate Pratyush Singh, SDM, Sadar, Harigiri, SDM, Headquarters, Apoorva Singh, Police Circle Officer Narendra K Aswal, President, Doon Valley Mahanagar Vyapar Mandal, Pankaj Mason, Doon Industry Association’s Vipin Nagalia, Doon Valley Vyapaar Mandal’s Vishal Gupta, Sunil Mason, Vipin Gupta, and representatives of various trade associations and officials of departments concerned. SDMs of Rishikesh, Doiwala, and Vikasnagar participated in virtual mode.
