A disturbing incident occurred in Dehradun’s Kempty Road area where four tourists from Punjab allegedly stalked local schoolgirls. When local residents intervened to stop them, the tourists assaulted them with sharp weapons, injuring three people. The Mussoorie police arrested two of the accused, while the other two managed to escape. A formal case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to Inspector Santosh Kunwar, the complaint was filed by Ashish Panwar, a resident of Beera village, Tehri Garhwal. He stated that four tourists were following local girls near the Kempty taxi stand and making inappropriate gestures. When confronted, the tourists got into a scuffle and one of them attacked the locals with a knife.
Two accused — Karan and Manish Kumar from Sakhuwal, Jalandhar — were caught on the spot with help from local residents. The other two, identified as Prince and Shubham, are still on the run. Police are actively searching for them.
Ashish Panwar revealed that his sister and her friends were returning from school when the tourists started following them. After inappropriate gestures, the group was confronted by local youth, leading to a violent altercation. Three locals — Bachan Singh, Ankit, and Rakesh — were injured in the attack. The arrested accused were later detained near Library Chowk.
Meanwhile, Mussoorie Taxi Association Secretary Rakesh Kotal strongly condemned the incident, stating that their association would not tolerate such acts of violence. He alleged police bias in handling the suspects gently while the victims were left to walk. He demanded strict action against the accused, warning of a strong protest if justice is not served.
