Dehradun: Youth Arrested with Illegal Firearm in Clement Town, Firing Alleged

Dehradun: Police in Clement Town arrested a 24-year-old youth for possessing an illegal country-made pistol during a late-night checking drive near Pipleshwar Temple.

The action was carried out as part of an intensified campaign directed by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Dehradun, to maintain law and order and curb criminal activities in the area. During checking on the night of February 22, the police team stopped a युवक moving in suspicious circumstances and conducted a search.

The accused, identified as Akash Suba (24), a resident of Nai Basti near Durga Temple in Clement Town, was found carrying a country-made pistol and one live cartridge. He was arrested on the spot, and a case has been registered against him at Clement Town police station.

Police sources said they had also received information from local residents that on the night of February 21, the accused allegedly opened fire during a dispute with a group of students in a society area near Kumai Sweet Shop lane. However, no formal complaint was lodged by either side in connection with the alleged firing.

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted that he is addicted to drugs and was carrying the weapon with the intention of arranging money illegally to purchase intoxicants. According to police records, he has been previously booked under serious charges as well.
