In a major move to curb arbitrary fee hikes by private schools, the Delhi government on Tuesday passed the Delhi School Education (Fee Determination and Regulation of Transparency) Bill, 2025 in its eighth cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The bill has received approval in the form of an ordinance and will be implemented from April 1, 2025.
The ordinance aims to bring transparency and regulation to fee structures in private schools. It will now be sent to the Lieutenant Governor and then to the President for final assent before it becomes law.
This step is seen as a relief for thousands of parents across Delhi who have long voiced concerns over sudden and unjustified fee hikes by private institutions.
