The long-pending issue of waterlogging at ISBT Chowk, which has caused inconvenience for years, is finally being addressed under the supervision of District Magistrate Savin Bansal. With financial support from the Smart City Project, the drainage system’s construction and the cleaning of the existing drain are now underway. A one-year maintenance period has been included in the tender, extendable up to three years.

Despite being a key entry point to the city, ISBT has faced severe waterlogging during monsoon seasons, leading to traffic congestion, accidents, and damage to public infrastructure. The delay in executing a proper drainage solution has been a matter of public concern. However, under the Chief Minister’s focus on priority areas, DM Bansal has expedited the project, ensuring close monitoring to prevent further setbacks.

The initiative reflects the administration’s renewed efforts to tackle urban infrastructure challenges. However, questions remain about why the issue was neglected for so long, given its visibility and repeated public complaints. The current project also faces the challenge of timely execution, with the monsoon season only a few months away. Any delays could result in continued inconvenience for commuters.

Officials have assured that construction work is progressing at a rapid pace, with the DM planning a site inspection soon. Local residents and commuters are hopeful that this time, the promises made will translate into effective results. With proper drainage in place, the risk of accidents and infrastructure damage can be significantly reduced. The administration’s proactive approach is commendable, but vigilance will be necessary to ensure quality work and timely completion.
