In an unusual sight, the District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Singh of Dehradun toured the city on a single bike, accompanied by a line of police officers on Monday. This initiative aimed to assess the state of women’s safety measures, traffic management, road conditions, drainage systems, and various city infrastructure improvements.
The inspection highlighted the city’s first “Pink Booth” dedicated to women’s safety, launched in Dehradun’s busy Paltan Bazaar area. This booth, a unique setup with a focus on addressing women’s safety issues, is not a typical police post; instead, it’s designed specifically for women and staffed by female police officers. The DM and SSP examined the potential for further expansion of such booths across other busy areas in the city, including malls, markets, and around schools and colleges.

Following the pilot project’s success at Paltan Bazaar, more Pink Booths are planned to cover various parts of Dehradun. Each booth will serve as a help desk for women and handle complaints related to women’s safety. The DM highlighted plans to identify more areas that would benefit from such installations, with monitoring overseen by respective station in-charges.
Equipped with communication tools like wireless sets, Pink Booths will provide real-time support to women in need. In addition to police support, these pink-colored booths will ensure the presence of female constables as needed, furthering the city’s commitment to women’s safety.
