The eagerly awaited Doon-Delhi Expressway, still awaiting inauguration, is already showing serious flaws. Heavy rains in Uttarakhand have damaged the road surface, with gravel peeling off and several stretches developing potholes. In areas where mountains were cut for construction, landslides have begun, making commuting risky on certain sections.
The construction from Ganeshpur to Asharodi, including an elevated road, was nearly completed months ago, and a viaduct towards Maa Dat Kali temple is still under work. However, due to pending inauguration dates and ongoing work at Mohand, only a two-kilometer stretch of the elevated road has been opened. Shockingly, this section has already deteriorated with multiple potholes.
In Asharodi, over eight damaged spots have emerged near the police post, troubling daily commuters. Even near the tunnel, where welcome artwork marks the entry into Uttarakhand, deep potholes have appeared. Officials admitted that earlier potholes were temporarily filled but heavy rainfall is hampering repair efforts. According to NHAI Project Director Pankaj Maurya, permanent fixes will be done after monsoon, and talks with the forest department are ongoing for landslide treatment measures.
