Drainage Plan Worth ₹250 Crore Prepared for Mussoorie, City Divided into Seven Zones

To prevent waterlogging and landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Mussoorie, the Irrigation Department has prepared a comprehensive drainage plan covering 22 km. The estimated cost of the project is ₹245.97 crore, and the city has been divided into seven zones for effective implementation.

Mussoorie receives an average of 1600 mm of rainfall annually. To manage the runoff, the plan includes the construction of 50 cross drainage systems, RCC and open drains, all of which will be connected to seven stormwater outfalls. These outfalls will channel excess rainwater into nearby natural streams (gaderas).

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is now ready and undergoing departmental review. The plan aims to improve the town’s drainage infrastructure and mitigate monsoon-related disasters.
