Election Commission Defends Integrity Amid Delhi Poll Controversy

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday responded to allegations of bias, stating that repeated attempts to malign its image will not deter its commitment to conducting free and fair elections. The response comes amid ongoing criticism from political parties, particularly the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), during the Delhi Assembly elections.

ECI’s Stand on Allegations

  • The Commission emphasized that its three-member panel is committed to electoral integrity despite repeated efforts to tarnish its reputation.
  • In a post on social media platform X, the ECI highlighted that over 1.5 lakh officials are working on the Delhi elections, ensuring impartiality and adherence to protocols.
  • The Commission reassured voters that all complaints are addressed fairly under strict SOPs.

AAP vs. Election Commission

  • AAP leaders, including CM Atishi and Arvind Kejriwal, have questioned the Commission’s neutrality, particularly after an FIR was filed against Atishi following her complaint against BJP supporters.
  • The party pointed out that while an FIR was also registered against BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s son, they believe ECI’s actions remain biased.
  • CM Atishi criticized the Commission, alleging selective enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

As the Delhi elections heat up, the ECI’s credibility remains under scrutiny, with opposition parties demanding greater transparency.
