Electricity Gets Cheaper in Uttarakhand, Relief from May Bills

Electricity rates in Uttarakhand have been reduced for the month of May under the Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment (FPPCA) mechanism. The Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has announced an average relief of 89 paise per unit, benefiting all categories of consumers. The discount will be applied directly to electricity bills generated in May.

UPCL Managing Director Anil Kumar stated that in March, the corporation purchased electricity from the power market at lower rates than the prices approved for the previous financial year. As per FPPCA provisions, this cost benefit is now being passed on to the consumers.

An official order has been issued to apply a total relief of ₹101 crore (at 89 paise per unit). Previously, consumers have received similar FPPCA-based benefits: 30 paise in July, 52 paise in August, 23 paise in September, 70 paise in October, 88 paise in November, 85 paise in December, and ₹1.19 per unit in March.
