Dehradun, 24 Oct: A meeting of the Empowered Committee, constituted for the operation of nursing courses, was held on Friday at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan. During the meeting, the committee recommended the operation of nursing courses and an increase in seats for various medical and nursing colleges.
The Chief Secretary directed the establishment of a single-window system for processing applications from institutions, instead of subjecting them to multiple levels of scrutiny. He stated that this would simplify the process from application submission to obtaining government approval. He further instructed that work in this direction should begin immediately. The Chief Secretary also emphasised the need to promptly prepare a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the entire process, from application submission to the various stages of approval.
During the meeting, the committee approved 1,790 new nursing seats across 39 colleges. Health Secretary Dr R Rajesh Kumar stated that, as of 2024, the total number of nurses registered with the State Nursing Council stands at 21,541. Currently, 9,806 individuals are undergoing nursing training in government and private nursing colleges.
Secretary Dilip Jawalkar, along with other senior officials, was also present on the occasion.
